Introduction to the Axes of Vision and Action
Okay, so if you want to be maximally productive and achieve your goals, there's sort of two axes that we want to be thinking about this. There's the first axis which is vision and the second axis which is action. The way I see it like these are sort of like the two core components of productivity. Vision is sort of like do you have a sense of what direction you're traveling in, where you're actually going and then action is are you actually doing the stuff that it takes to get there.
The 2x2 Matrix and the Four Camps: Drifters and Dreamers
Now based on this like 2x2 matrix, we can broadly split people up into four camps. So firstly you have the people that a don't know where they're going so they they're low on vision and also they struggle to take action and so they are low on action. I think of these people as the drifters. They're just sort of drifting along through life. Then you have the people that are like really high on vision. Like they're really good at dreaming about their goals, but they're really bad at taking action. So those, you know, high vision, low action. Those people are the dreamers. You know, they're dreaming about the thing, but they're never actually doing the thing.
The 2x2 Matrix and the Four Camps: Hamsters and Productivity Masters
Then you have the people that are very good at taking action, but not very good at reflecting and like, you know, figuring out where they actually want to go. So high on action, low on vision. And I think of these people as hamsters because they're on the hamster wheel of the grind. And the place where we are all trying to get to and the place where I aspire to get to over time as well is where you have high vision, high action and those are the productivity masters. That's where you have a very clear sense of where you are going in your life. You're good at setting goals and then you are also crucially good at actually taking action to get there.
Self-Assessment Question
So I'd love to know in the comments below, how would you rate yourself on a scale of 0 to 10 on vision and zero to 10 on action? Which of these camps do you think you fall.
